FAQs
Does STORCHENMUEHLE sell its products direct?
No, all STORCHENMUEHLE products are sold exclusively through specialist retailers.
What costs will I incur when purchasing STORCHENMUEHLE products?
Please refer to our retailers. We only make non-binding price recommendations.
What should I look for when buying a child seat?
• Given the enormous variety of child restraint systems, you should seek specialist advice from your retailer. Due to our many years of competence, the know-how of highly qualified employees, technical edge and a marked sense for the special needs of older and, of course, younger customers – you will inevitably come across the child seats from STORCHENMUEHLE.
• The child seat or infant carrier must match the weight or size (seat height, width) of the child
• The seat should be tested and meet standard ECE R 44/04 (look for the orange certification sticker on the seat)
• Install the seat in your own vehicle before buying it, to ensure that it fits.
• Your child must feel comfortable in the seat. What is the point of having an attractive child seat in the car, if your child feels uncomfortable in it and distracts you from driving?
• The seat should be straightforward to install with the available vehicle belts to save you time and effort.
• The child should be able to get in and out of the seat easily.
• Is the child seat TÜV tested or are any test results available from different institutions, e.g. ADAC, Stiftung Warentest?
• Does the seat come with easy-to-follow instructions?
The seat should be consistently used – your child’s safety in the car is a priority! The child seat prevents injuries caused by accidents and enables a posture appropriate to the age of the child.
Where is the safest place in the car for my child?
Essentially in the second row of seats, if possible in the middle. Why? Your child is as far as possible from all collision points in this position. The next best seating position is the right-hand side of the vehicle (for left-hand drive vehicles), because it is safer for the child to exit the vehicle on the right-hand side of the road.
PLEASE NOTE:
1) Many vehicles only have a 2-point belt (lap belt) in the centre. STORCHENMUEHLE child seats must not be secured with this belt system.
2) In newer vehicles, Isofix points are mostly only available on the outside seats of the second row. In some vehicles, Isofix holders are also offered in the centre.
How long is the warranty for STORCHENMUEHLE child seats?
The warranty is explained in the user manual. If you need to make a claim, please contact the retailer you purchased the product from.
Can I use a second hand child seat?
We would not recommend second hand seats because the previous history of the child seat is usually unknown. The seat could have been involved in an accident or been damaged in some other way. This would no longer guarantee that the seat is safe to use. For this reason, we advise against using previously used child car seats.
Side airbags and child seats – what should I do?
Unlike the front airbag on the passenger’s side (which must be deactivated for infant carriers group 0/0+), the side airbags inflate very flat. They will almost never come into contact with the child seats. It can therefore be said that a side airbag will not pose any danger if the child is secured properly in the seat and cannot lean out of it.
What do I have to think about with regard to the child seat and airbags?
Essentially, all warnings on the child seat, in the car and all instructions in the child seat user manual and in the vehicle manual must be complied with.
Are spare parts available for old child seats?
Contact your retailer to order individual accessories/spare parts. Generally, however, only spare parts that meet standards ECE R 44/03 or ECE R 44/04 are available for child seats, as manufacturers and retailers are no longer permitted to sell child seats with an older certification.
Can the cover of the child seat be replaced?
Despite our high-quality fabrics, the covers will wear with time: sunlight and dirt will take their toll on the fabric.
STORCHENMUEHLE original replacement covers are available from your retailer in a limited number of designs. Please note that the cover is part of the design certification of the child seat – therefore, only an original STORCHENMUEHLE cover should be used.
Is the cover washable?
All our covers can be hand or machine washed at a maximum temperature of 30°C. Read the washing and care instructions on the cover. Use a slower spin speed and do not tumble dry.
The belts in my vehicle are too short to secure the child car seat properly. What should I do?
If the belts in your vehicle are too short, we can only advise you to get in touch with the manufacturer of your vehicle or with your regular workshop. If the problem concerns the length of belt on the passenger’s seat, you should ensure that the seat is as far back as it will go, to ensure that the maximum belt length is available. Furthermore, it is essential to precisely follow the instructions concerning the airbags. We recommend testing the child seat in your vehicle before buying it. This will also reveal how customer-friendly the retailer is.
The belt is too tight for my child. Do I have to change to the follow-on seat now?
When children wear snowsuits or thick anoraks in the car in winter, the belts may be too short to secure your child comfortably. Usually, the children have reached the upper end of the weight category for which the child seat in question is designed. In principle, however, it would be better to dispense with excess clothing, rather than change to the follow-on seat too early. You should therefore dress your child appropriately to fit within the belts and regulate the temperature in the car. Only change to the follow-on seat when your child has reached maximum weight for the seat.
